On the web page, right click the image. Select Save As.

I am trying to work offline using Mozilla cache view as I have limited internet usage with my dongle. This would mean saving the same data twice, is there a way I can get gifs saved as gifs in the cache view ?

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for cache.

I did look but I am worried that if I try to update cache viewer it might not work at all looking at some problems highlighted. Also nothing seems specific to my problem. Have you any idea why it has stopped working ?

If the program you are using is outdated or needs an upgrade . . . . . . If you want to save the old program, copy it to a location outside Firefox.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.

Did those images previously animate when you displayed that page in Firefox in online mode?

Note that some security software have a feature to suppress an animation and only send the first frame to Firefox.

I used to save cache files to a new folder. Then gifs opened in windows media player and jpegs opened in windows photo viewer.

Now cache view has gifs with added jpeg extension so they open in photo viewer.

If I open windows media player then open the gif with the jpg extension it is animated but I have to open every file like this to see if it is actually a gif image.

Is there a way to revert to the old ectensions in firefox cache viewer to make this easier as not it is very time consuming ?.

If this are still GIF files with the wrong file extension then try to rename (or delete) the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

I tried to rename and delete but these did not work, could not find the reset folder

http://kb.mozillazine.org/MimeTypes.rdf this link did not seem to give any insight to my problem. So there seems to be no way to reset to default settings that i could find.

The link http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions#Resetting_download_actions worked to get me to the applications so I changed the gif there to media player, this seems to work however not all gifs are saved to the cache folder now.

Is there any way to reset back to the old way so that these functions work as they used to as there was no problems then ?

Thanks for you help and the partial solution,

regards Neil
