I had a ton of Bookmarks on my old firefox and I downloaded firefox 33.0 and when I clicked on my Bookmarks icon it was empty and it wouldn't let me Bookmark my Email page.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
