If Firefox doesn't seem to be recording history in real time, it's possible you are using private browsing mode. If you start off in a normal window and then launch a new private window, it should start with an informational page and show a special icon on the title bar. If you start Firefox in automatic private mode, then there's no visible indication. To check on that, you can go into the Preferences dialog:

  • "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences > Privacy

If the middle says "Firefox will: Never remember history" then there's your trouble. You can change that to "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history" and uncheck the box for "Always use private browsing mode".

If Firefox gathers history in real time but it's gone the next time you start it up, Firefox might be set to clear history at shutdown. With the Privacy preferences on "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history" you can see whether "Clear history when Firefox closes" is turned on.

Hi Met2x2head, your post is here, so it seems that your registration was successful. If you meant your registration for this support site. If you meant a different site or feature, do you recall what it was for?

Internet connection (FIOS) was/is good. Tried to set up a FireFox registration but supposed email confirmation never reached me and still hasn't. Not in aol spam, either. However, here I am so apparently, I am registered. Needed to be for fantasy baseball draft.

   Thanks for the replies.

Hmm, I doubt there is any connection between this site and a fantasy baseball draft. If you look in your history (History > Show All History), can you track down the page you were registering on?

Hello. I did not allude to a connection between "this site and a fantasy baseball draft". What I inferred was that I needed Firefox because my Safari wasn't doing the job and couldn't be updated. But, as I wrote, here I am and my registration seems to be in order and so, my failure to get confirmation obviously doesn't mean a hellava lot in the greater scheme of the world. And, further, my history in Safari doesn't show any Firefox pages at all. The history in Firefox shows only aol and, for some inexplicable reason, the Daily Mail in London. It--and I wonder why--doesn't show any of my activity on Firefox which has actually been pretty legion.

Anyway, thank you for answering the unanswerable. I'm impressed that you're a top 10 contributor.
P.S. Lo, those many years ago coming home with my new laptop, a stranger on the bus , seeing my computer box, turned to me and said, "Download Firefox".
