Im an older user and do not understand what to do the way others describe. After some updates , l lost that whole top line as l described above. Sometimes it appears very briefly but travels very quickly upwards before l can click on anything. I am then faced with a large white page with no bar at the top with all the useful icons . And no bar at the bottom to connect to internet or adjust sound . Just one big white expanse. I am at my wits end. Ive been using Alt,Cltr,Delete to exit pages. l cannot even exit this page.

Hi, you may be in Full Screen Mode: Point to the top of the screen, then right click > Exit Full Screen Mode.

The Full Screen button should also be in the 3-bar menu. More - Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

As Scribe mentioned, it sounds like you have FullScreen mode turned on. The F11 key toggles FullScreen mode on & off.
