firefox has prevented the outdated plugin "Adobe Flash" from running, how do I fix this problem

more options

It constantly pops up (across the top of the page) and to make it work, I usually click "Allow" (in the upper right corner), and then I click "Allow Now" (in the upper left corner). Sometimes, I have to do this several times before I get it to work.

How can I fix this issue?

"Vulnerable" versions of Flash may be set to "Ask to Activate" instead of the default setting of "Always Activate".

What is the full version number of your Flash 18 plugin? You can read it from the Add-ons page, or from my plugin lister page. To use the Add-ons page, either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, look for "Shockwave Flash" and click the More link.

Or use: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/plugins.html

Adobe's latest update for the Flash 18 series is 18.0.0.360. If you don't have that one, you can grab an installer from this page (scroll down about 60% of the way): https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

I use Flash 22, so I don't know whether that will work.

I have an old Dell Dimension 4600 computer. The system is windows XP.

This warning, below, continues to pop up constantly;

"firefox has prevented the outdated plugin "Adobe Flash" from running..."

This continues to pop up across the top of the page. To make it work, I click "Allow" in the upper right corner. Then I click "Allow Now" in the upper left corner. Sometimes, I have to do this several times before I get it to work.

I am not computer savvy when it comes to this sort of thing. Can you make it simple for me so that it doesn't seem so complicated? I tried to fix it with your instructions, with no luck.

Okay, in simpler steps:

Open this page: https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

Note: it takes about 10 seconds and may flash before it finishes.

Scroll down about 2/3 of the way to the section titled:

Extended Support Release - Flash Player 18.0.0.360 (Win & Mac)

In the table that follows, find the row for

Windows | Firefox and Netscape Plug-In compatible applications – NPAPI

You can click the line for the EXE or the MSI installer. Either will do.

After it finishes downloading, start it by clicking the download on Firefox's downloads panel.

Once the initial box appears, exit out of Firefox before continuing to make sure that the Flash plugin is not in use and can be replaced.

Then continue with the Flash installation until it completes.

Finally, start up Firefox and test how Flash works.
