Whenever I try to pay for something (online shopping) using the Pay Pal check out facility from another website, it won't log in. I enter my email address and password and just get an error message saying incorrect password or email address, even though I know that both are correct. I can log into Pay Pal using the checkout facility successfully using Internet Explorer without any problems. I can also log into Pay Pal successfully if I go to it's website (www.paypal.com.au) in Firefox.

I have tried clearing cache and all cookies associated with Pay Pal, but that hasn't helped at all.

This problem has been happening for months and is quite frustrating.

I am using Firefox 48.0.2 (current version). All my extensions and plug-ins are up to date. Using Windows 7.

Update: The problem is definitely caused by an extension/add on. I don't know which one yet. I can only test this when I'm buying something, hence the reason it's taking me a while to figure it out.

Next time I buy something online I'll test out all the extensions/add ons until I find the one that's causing the problem. Once I figure it out I'll post a reply here.

Thanks for your help :)

Hi, just to be sure, try this: Delete all references to Paypal, as shown under the heading 'How do I remove a single website from my history?' in this article - Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox, then try the site (not from an old bookmark) again. Note: It may take a few minutes to complete the deletion.

If that didn't work, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem. Thank you!

Update: the add-on that is causing the problem is either NoSquint Plus or LastPass (I disabled both of them and it solved the problem). I'm not sure which one yet.

I hope this helps other people too :)
