When attempting to install Norton Safe Search or Norton Safe Web Fire fox requests an Approval. That suggests to me that Firefox does not think this is a good idea?? Maybe I am overthinking this?

IMHO, those Norton add-ons provide very real "security". More like they duplicate the Safe Browsing features that are built into Firefox, and use a different source for the data that makes those features work and stay up-to-date. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-does-phishing-and-malware-protection-work https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/tracking-protection

And when Norton is late with providing updates for those add-ons the user gets pissed at Mozilla - IOW they have proved to be more trouble than they are worth, although Norton is a lot better with their updates than they were 3 or 4 years ago.

Firefox will ask about any new add-on. This is for security reasons.
