Hi w00tnoway,
Would you give this a try please :
3-bar menu (or 'Tools') => Options => General
under 'Fonts & Colors' => Colors :
'Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above'
And choose 'Never'
Does that make a difference ?

solved
Hello, I tried this solution and it only partially worked for me. I'm on Windows 10 Firefox 61.0.2 with Windows settings set to High Contrast mode with a custom color scheme and background set to a solid custom color. Firefox was using the default theme. Thanks for any pointers or info you might have! A lot of sites were pretty unreadable in Firefox . Amazon had a lot of missing icons (like ratings stars), plus a whole bunch of other icons. Thanks for any pointers or info you might have!
1)A customer support text input box on another site didn't match any of the colors in my Windows 10 custom colors scheme or the solid background. It had a black background and dark magenta text. But not all text boxes have this issue.
Solution approaches a) I followed the above directions and that adjusted most of Firefox. There are still some things in Firefox that are using my Windows 10 theme, like scroll bars, various web buttons, selected text. b) I tried selecting a couple of other Firefox themes (including Dark) hoping it might fix the text input box. I settled on Default theme. c) I adjusted the '3-bars' menu>General>Colors and provided an img of it, but so far no change. d) I tried resetting the '3-bars' menu>Customize> "Restore Defaults" which didn't seemed to have no effect.
Thanks!

@ meghan_e :
You did the right thing posting in this thread, however : this thread is almost 5 months old and has been marked as solved - I doubt if very many contributors will check to see if maybe someone else has posted here about their (similar) problem(s).
Maybe you'd be better off starting your own thread and post a question - you can do so by clicking on the 'Ask a Question' button at the top of this page.
@meghan_e
Selecting "Never" should disable the High Contrast theme in Firefox. When you use a High Contrast theme then this is the same as disabling website colors and that hides background images and can make it impossible to see elements that solely consist of a background image.
You can look at the NoSquint Plus extension to set font size (text/page zoom) and text color on web pages.
Thank you both! I'll try the NoSquint and see if it works with the Windows 10 High Contrast sometime soon. If not, I'll start a new post :) Selecting "Never" in the Fonts&Colors > Colors SHOULD work to disable the Windows 10 color scheme, but it doesn't. At least not for me. Hoping the NoSquint plugin might.
Well, tried NoSquint. It's promising but broken. It doesn't always start. I changed the colors on the page and wanted to modify them and a) I couldn't access the some of the settings and b) the colors in the boxes were all the same as the background color and weren't updating color either. So that's too bad. Oh well...
yeah meghan i am left with similar things, some text boxes remain completely black unless i select the text to see what ive written. however the solution i marked did solve 90% of my problems. i also do have websites that are broken in terms of colors just like you, what i use to solve this problem is an addon called Dark Mode. when the background of a website is completely black and the text is too, i turn on dark mode so that it changes the text of the website to white and it allows me to still use the website normally. :) hope this helps
