I have been trying to remove "Your browser is being managed by your organisation" simply because the browser is on my home PC and not being managed by any organisation. However, I have an issue with registry editor as it does not have Mozilla or Firefox keys in "Policies" "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies" or "HKEY_CURRENT_USER". I would be grateful for any advice to overcome this issue as it annoyingly restricts access to web pages.

Did you try to run it in Private Mode browser window to see what happens?

You can click the "Your browser is being managed by your organization" notification or open the about:policies page to see if policies are active and if errors are reported.

Policies can be applied either by GPO via the Windows registry or by a policies.json file in the distribution folder in the Firefox installation folder or by an autoconfig.cfg file at the main level in the Firefox program folder.

You already checked the registry, so that would leave only the policies.json file.

You can inspect the Mozilla and Firefox keys with the Windows Registry Editor in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and in HKEY_CURRENT_USER with the Windows Registry Editor to see whether GPO policy rules are active.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\

The mere presence of the "Mozilla\Firefox\" key is sufficient to make Firefox display this notification, so if you have the Firefox key then remove it and only leave the Mozilla key or remove this key as well if it is empty.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\ =>
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\

Then you can check the distribution folder to see if there is a policies.json file present.

Hi cor-el, Thank you for your assistance and reply, however I'm a bit lost here. You mention check the distribution folder to see if there is a policies.json file present. Can I remove policies from here in order to prevent my home PC being managed by an organisation? If so, how do I go about doing this? To recap: - I am trying to remove "Your browser is being managed by your organisation". I installed Firefox browser is on my home PC and this is not being managed by any organisation. The PC is Windows 11 Home There is no Mozilla key in the registry editor at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies" There is no Mozilla key in the registry editor at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies" I will be grateful for your further clarification.
