I have a 6-Core Mac Pro and have three DVI monitors hooked up to it. If I have the front-most Firefox window on the main screen, everything works fine. If I drag it to a side monitor (Monitor 2 on left, monitor 3 on right), then try to open a new window (from the menu or by dragging a tab to another monitor), it won't work. If I try it enough times, Firefox starts acting strange and I have to quit and restart Firefox.

I am using Mac OS 10.6.8 and Firefox 7.0.

Still same issues - Now using Firefox 7.0.1 and Mac OS 10.7.2. Windows show up on the menu bar under "Windows", but when I select a particular window, it won't appear - same with the Downloads window.

Anyone else have this problem - or anyone have a solution?

Does it work with hardware acceleration disabled?

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Yes, it does. Thank you. Do you kn0w why that is?

Hardware acceleration doesn't seem to work very well with multiple monitors. I've seen issues reported on Windows as well with such a setup and on Mac it seems to prevent Firefox windows from opening on the second (i.e. not first) monitor.

Awesome - thanks for the info.

Firefox 7.0.1 is doing it again - when using left monitor, it won't open new windows or downloads window. Hardware acceleration is still off.  :(

I looked at bug fixes for 8.0, but it doesn't say anything about fixing this. I'm about to upgrade it to see if this fixes it (crossing fingers).
