My browser froze, then crashed.

As it crashed the application icon disappeared from my dock.

The application cannot now be opened. The icon (in my applications folder) has a universal negative symbol and when I click on the application it says, "You cannot open the application Firefox.app because it may be damaged or incomplete." I had recently (2/10/12) downloaded the most recent version of Firefox.

How do move forward? Do I reload another application? Can still retain my previous bookmarks, or are they lost?

Help!!!!

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
