for the last 2 days, after upgrading firefox, every time i launch firefox v25 it is causing my macbook pro 17" (early 2011 build) running mavericks 10.9 to have screen issues. The screen blacks out, or splits into two (the left 1/3rd section of the screen is shown on the right side) or causes hundreds of 2x2 flashing pixels randomly scattered across the screen to appear. I have turned off the acceleration options. I have tried upgrading to v25 beta, its not working. I have tested this about 25 times with various programs running and the ONLY time I have this issue is when I have a firefox browser screen running (its OK if I shut all screens but have the top bar only showing), so it is definitely an issue with firefox.

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
