When I opened firefox after the recent update it reset my homepage. I changed all my settings for the homepage back to what I had before the update. But everytime I close and reopen my firefox browser my home page resets to the speed dial page and its really starting to make me upset. I went to my addons and deactivated the speed dial addon but it still didnt solve my issue. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware. Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer Windows > Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. (Mac: Open the "Applications" folder) Go thru the list and use a web search to check any that you don't know what they are.

Hi it seems there is fix... It came from their costumer support , worked well for me.

n order to reset your home page please click on this link :

http://s3.amazonaws.com/hmpgr/v2/hmpg%40remover.com.xpi
Link removed disabled from display by a forum Moderator. Please do not link directly to third party installers, especially unnamed unknown software ~J99
2nd Edit I have made the information visible again, but not clickable, you will need to paste it into the location bar to use it. ~J99

Click on install in the pop-up window(This will install an extension that will solve the issue.)

Then go to options ---> Under start up ---> Click on Restore to defaults or enter your preferred home page ---> Restart firefox.

To remove the SpeeDial extension:

Go to add-ons ---> Click on "Remove" next to the SpeeDial extension.

To remove the SpeeDial search engine :

Click on the icon to the left of your search box ---> Click on manage search engines---> Remove SpeeDial entry.

johnf2003,

If the uninstaler is one recommended by speed dial from their website could you please provide the link to the website page rather than directly to an executable .xpi installer. I have edited your last post.

Note: Consider use of adwcleaner

will probably remove speed dial. You may need to run the search reset addon afterwards as the easiest method of resetting the search settings. That addon installs resets settings and uninstalls itself

Hi. I got this xpi from their support.

So he can contact them and they will provide him with the same link.

Just saying...:)

I was thinking that if their software need an .xpi to uninstall it it should be shown on their site. What is

  • Their site ?
  • And their downloaded and install pages ?
  • Where are their pages about uninstalling ?
    and their support page ?

It may even be grounds for considering asking for blocking of their installs for Firefox if the software installed can not be easily uninstalled.

Hi Kate, Thanks for the information.

I note you also give full uninstall instructions with screenshots including an explanation of how to reset Firefox

You may even consider incorporating use of the search reset addon in those instructions if it simplifies the uninstall process. Also note the keyword.url preference mentioned is now deprecated. Firefox will now use whatever search engine is selected in the Search Bar for all the searches including from the location bar or right clicking on text within a webpage.

I am not sure though if there could be similar &/or bundled software around in addition to your own speedial Firefox's own associated site for instance hosts some similarly named addons with names including speed dial

I have allowed the .xpi link to be seen again.

Personally I would not recommend using that.

  • Will it work reliably ?
    • I have no idea who is initially recommending it, or if the code will remain the same on the linked page or be modified
    • I have no idea of the relevance of the herman melville homepage or addon to this problem
  • Is it needed when other tools will work ?
    • AdwCleaner is trusted. It is often may mentioned on this forum and may well deal with removal of this speed dial software / adware
    • The search reset addon will return settings to default states and again is trusted software (IIRC writtern by a Mozilla Firefox developer)
    • If you actually have speedial installed they have uninstall information on their site http://www.getspeedial.com/how-do-i-remove-speedial/
