Hey there, I just bought a new SSD, installed Firefox and then tried to move the Firefox folder from my old drive to the new one, but everything is lost (settings/history/bookmarks/sessions(from sessionmanager) ). Is there any way to restore that stuff? Thanks in advance.

Which Firefox folder did you try to move?

Firefox will look for your Firefox (data) folder under this path:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\

You can access that using this shortcut to bypass the hiding of the AppData folder:

Windows key + R (or Run from the application list screen)

%APPDATA%\Mozilla

Make sure Firefox is closed. Then, rename the "new" Firefox folder there to something like FirefoxSSD and then copy over the "old" Firefox folder from the corresponding location into the Mozilla folder alongside it.

(Firefox also has a corresponding folder where it stores your cache and other temporary files, but I don't think it's essential to copy that one over. I think Firefox will create a new blank one the next time you start Firefox.)

Try starting up Firefox. Success?

Note that Firefox won't recognize the profile folder if you only copy that folder and not the profiles.ini file that Firefox uses to register profiles. Also make sure to copy the main profile folder in AppData\Roaming and not the cache folder in AppData\Local.

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
