Hallo,

One simple example: I want to synchronize my email with any cloud service. So, I pick Thunderbirds's folder as folder for synchronization. And there is a big problem: all the email in Trash folder are united in one giant file (for example, my file is nearly 2 GB; I can't to delete old email, for some reasons). The same problem with emails in Sent folder.

So, each time, when I delete or send email, both giant files are updated. And cloud service start synchronization. It means, that after removal of any email, cloud service synchronizes 2 GB. If I delete 5 emails per day, cloud service synchronizes 2 GB * 5 = 10 GB (per 1 day!).

Please, can you divide these giant files into numerous less ones (for example, 1 file for 1 email).

Grateful for help, Michael

Most email, notably that using IMAP, is already "in the cloud". It seems a duplication of effort to move your mail storage files to a cloud location. You'd download it from a mailserver and then upload it.

There has long been a movement to switch Thunderbird to the maildir model, where indeed the underlying file system is used as the message store, and it's stored as one message per file. Look for it on bugzilla and vote for it if you think it's important, but as far as I can see, this project has stalled.

Because of my bad experience in the past, I don't believe to mail services. So, my Thunderbird downloads all my emails and stores them locally in my computer.

But where I can vote? In your links I don't find places where I can vote. I think , maildir model will be very useful for me.
