I have 2 copies of Firefox open (two different windows with lots of tabs), if I reboot can I restore both sessions?

I have 2 copies of Firefox open (two different windows with lots of tabs), if I reboot can I restore both sessions? I am familiar with clicking history/ restore previous session, but don't want to reboot to let windows update to do it's thing unless I can restore both sessions.

If they are running different profiles, then yes.

Thanks but I am running only 1 profile. I did however find the answer! If I reboot/turn off/power outage the pc WITHOUT closing either firefox session, it will come up with the "well this is embarrassing" screen and will list BOTH sessions to restore. The trick is not to close them before shutting down! If you close them first then you can only restore the first(?) session.

Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar. That way you should restore all open windows the next time Firefox is started.

Will this work with multiple copies of Firefox running? That is the question. Plus I don't understand your directions above, I'm a dummy, I need "click on the **** tab then choose ***** type directions.

Actually my other fix works but it also works if I close windows and LEAVE firefox running, letting windows shut it down. Then upon power up it comes up with the "well this is embarrassing" screen which lets me open all copies of firefox. Again this is for multiple copies of Firefox.

What do you mean with "with multiple copies of Firefox running"?

Is that starting multiple instances each with their own profile via the -no-remote command line switch or by opening other windows in one Firefox instance?

Sorry we are not understanding each others wording. I simply click on the Firefox icon on the task bar, and when firefox get's too "crowed" with tabs, I click on the firefox icon again and it opens a fresh page of firefox. They share the same bookmarks and everything. Anyway like I said before if I reboot windows, letting windows close everything when I open firefox again I can click history then "restore previous session" and they both open up again. Actually since then I found it always restores both "sessions" no matter how I close them, I swear it didn't used to. But it is working just fine. So I know the terminology, what do I call the multiple firefox windows I open?

You appear to be opening additional windows in the same Firefox instance.

If you use click the power button in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list or use the File menu(F10, File > Exit) then you should be able to reopen all windows when you start Firefox the next time.

You can use this startup setting to make session restore work more reliably:

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts":
"Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Yes, that looks like a great option, thanks! And thanks for putting up with me too!
