I have "save p/w" checked how do I make a site save a p/w

I have save p/w checked in security settings but some sites don't give me the option of saving my p/w. I have them saved on other computers so its not the site and I don't hav e the sites in the "never save this sites P/W. thanks for any advice

It is possible that the log in form that the website uses is not compatible with the Firefox Password Manager if you do not see the key icon on the location/address bar to save the name and password. This can be the case if the form is created via JavaScript and Firefox doesn't detect this or there might be multiple input fields.

It is possible that this was a recent change and that the other computers already had saved this data.

Note that a detail like a website remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie. You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you:

  • Create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep such cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
