When trying to search with the search box in the middle of the screen below the big firefox symbol, there is no search happening. If I for example type in "Berlin" the browser goes to the following site "about:startpage?q=berlin". If I press one of the buttons on the bottom of the screen like "downloads, booḱmarks History..." nothing is happening at all. Working with elementary os on a asus 1000he....?

Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default built-in search engines that come with Firefox and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
