When I try to insert an image into the main body of a Thunderbird email, I see it but when it is sent the image is stripped out.

Is there a solution to this?

Now you have selected the send option as 'Send the message in both plain text and HTML', I have received an email with images. So, I can now confirm that you are sending in HTML and the images are displaying in the content.

This is good news.

What is the exact process you use to insert the image into a Write message? Is the image one that is saved somewhere on your computer? Is it an image you copied/downloaded from a website?

You say it is 'stripped out'... do you mean it is stripped out in your copy in the 'Sent' folder ? do you see an outlined box with a broken file icon or is it completely removed and added as an attachment ?

Do you use an imap or pop mail account?

The image is a jpg saved on my computer, not downloaded. A foto I took that I want to insert inside an email.

It is visible in the email until I sent it, the received sees nothing at all. No outline, no box, no broken file icon -- completely gone. Not added as an attachment either.

I tried sending different images from both pop and imap accounts, the same thing happens every time. Email gets sent with no image.

When inserting the image do you do this: In new Write message - Insert > Image click on 'choose file' , locate and click on open select: 'attach this image to the message' (this must be selected) after making any other selections on various tabs click on OK

Is it stripped out in your copy in the 'Sent' folder ?

Ok received emails and no image.

However, I've looked at the source file and it has no html.

So, can you check a few settings:

The reason I asked how you were inserting the image is because it would tell me whether you were composing in html in the first place. So, I need to know...in a Write message can you see the Formatting Bar or is there 'Insert' on the toolbar ?

Check Account settings: Right click on mail account name in Folder pane and select 'Settings'. Select 'Composition & Addressing' for the mail account Select 'Compose messages in HTML format'

Confirm all of your accounts have this setting selected. click on OK to save and close Account settings.

Check your Sending options. 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab or 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab

click on 'Send Options' button Text format select: 'Send the message in both plain text and HTML' click on OK Click on OK to save and close Options.

Confirm settings are as specified in both Account Settings and Send Options.
