Firefox was working for me until yesterday after an update. Now Firefox will display nothing; no error messages at all. Just a blank page comes up. I went to 'troubleshooting' and clicked on "Refresh Firefox" but I still can't get any pages to load- still just blank pages. Even typing an address in the address bar does nothing. I can use IE fine. Just not Firefox.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

I went to "Systems and Security"> Windows Firewall but I get this message: "Windows Firewall is not using the recommended settings to protect your computer" so I'm assuming that means it isn't even turned on.

I had also downloaded AVG but when I check it says I do have the latest up to date version.

Turn on your firewall and anti-virus ! ! Note, some programs replace the computer firewall with its own.

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Network. Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. If you are using a proxy, make sure those settings are correct. If there is no proxy, first use No Proxy. If there is a problem, then try System Proxy.

Unfortunately, still not working.

I went to Configure How Firefox connects and went to Settings. I'm not using a proxy, so I selected No Proxy. Nothing happened. Then I selected System Proxy. Still no luck.

As for turning on Windows Firewall, I'm kind of stumped. When I click on Windows Firewall, the left pane has "Turn Windows Firewall On or Off" but when I click that, no options come up to turn it on or off. All it says is "Update your Firewall settings" but when I click on "use recommended settings" a box pops up and says "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error Code )x80070422".

Also when I click on "Allow Programs To communicate through Windows Firewall" it says "To add, change or remove allowed programs and ports, click Change Settings". But there IS no "Change Settings" button available. The only button it gives me to click on is "use recommended settings" where that error code pops up.

So I'm stumped.

Okay, I've now managed to turn on Windows Firewall and under "Allow Programs Through Windows Firewall" I've added a check to Firefox but it doesn't make a difference. I'm still getting blank pages.

I've given up trying to fix this. It's obviously got something to do with the last update since it was working fine before that.

It's not worth wasting anymore time on this.
