I have the free version of O/E Classic which gives problems, freezing etc and I have downloaded Thunderbird to take its place. Unfortunately I cannot import/export anything from oe classic as it it is not listed under default programmes when the import procedure is started from Thunderbird . I am using Windows 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Outlook express does not run under windows 7, so of course it is not offered. Now if you install it on the machine with Outlook express, that would be on XP as it was th last operating system to support outlook express, then it will offer to import from it.

Otherwise if you have only DBX files. your basically stuck with this. http://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com.au/2011/07/outlook-express.html

Thanks for the reply Matt. Unfortunately I do not have Outlook Express programme as used in Windows XP with DBX files. It is the look alike O/E Classic which is a recent free or paid for emulation of Outlook /Express which uses an MBX filing system which will run on any operating system but is not recognised in the set default programmes list. As mentioned before I Have windows 7. I really do need to import into Thunderbird.

O/E Classic appears to store mail in mbox format, which can probably be imported to TB with ImportExportTools (how to install). The files are kept in the Store folder with names like Inbox.mbx. I suggest renaming the files to have no extension, e.g. Inbox.mbx becomes simply Inbox, before importing to TB (select Local Folders in the folder pane, then Tools/ImportExportTools/Import mbox file).
