Run-"about:config" will not open. Message box: "Requires an app to open" and "store". What app? Clicking on "store" results in "About" not found. I am trying to solve the Script not responding error. WIN 10,pro,64bit Latest Firefox, down loaded 3 days ago. Firefox is becoming completely unusable due to the frequency of this script error. Please help Jack Not very computer literate! Thanks

Sounds like you are typing in about:config in a Run box instead of the Location (address) bar in Firefox where you type in say www.example.com

Any particular Preferences you are planning to modify?

In the URL / Address Bar in Firefox type " about:config " (no quotes) as to what you are going to do from there is a mystery to me. Just make sure you know what your doing in there......

Please supply more information as this is not a place you want to go if as you say computer literate. Where are you getting this error message ? When are you getting this error message ? A screen shot would be helpful if can not describe the issue but it is visual.

Does the unresponsive script dialog mention a web-based script (address starts with http or https) or an internal/add-on script (address starts with chrome or resource)?

One common cause of unresponsive script errors on Windows 7+ is the protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin. That feature has security benefits, but seems to have serious compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it using the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, find "Shockwave Flash" and click the More link. Then uncheck the box for "Enable Adobe Flash protected mode" and try that for a day to see whether it helps.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
