When starting browser, on more than one occasion, it opens a window that appears like a Firefox page with the logo and the download button. It wants to install a "critical update". Some "Firefox-update.js" patch, or something. I go to the website eideeshopnational.org and there is no information. Just a blank screen. I downloaded the file but did not install it. Opened it in notepad and its mainly Greek to me. But seems to be some sort of mallware deal. Or whatever they call it when something takes control of a browser.

Is this a legit update? I don't think it is. And how do I keep it from coming back? I already ran virus protection to no avail.

hi, this is a scam tactic that is trying to trick you into installing malware, so don't download or execute this kind of stuff just because of a popup or redirect on a website! updates are handled automatically by firefox so you don't have to download anything for that (and you can always initiate a manual check for updates in the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > about firefox).

we suspect this is coming form "malvertising" (=ads placed on legitimate websites that redirect you to this fraudulent message), so using an adblocking addon like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ would also help with that.

I found a fake Firefox update
