That depends on what you want to change. Using the menus, or add-ons, you can change the browser to do whatever you want.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

You can always ask for anything you can't find.

There isn't any built-in way to do that. Possibly an add-on could do it.

Can you attach a screenshot and tell use what you want to change in Firefox?

I'm not seeing any complete themes on the Add-ons website about Internet Explorer. You can also look on the userstyles website.

See also this older knowledge base article.

Do you mean to reduce the width of it? It shrinks as you add more buttons to the bar, but I don't think there's an easy way to create a blank area on the toolbar.

Yes the width of it you use to be able to do it now it appears can't

If you use extensions that place special buttons or info on the Navigation Toolbar then those might interfere can cause issues with the width of the location and search bar bar containers. You can move the search bar to the "3-bar" menu button drop-down list via Customization mode or via the right-click context menu of the magnifier icon (Move to Menu) if you need a longer location bar. This will still allow to access the search bar via the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+K).

You can use code in userChrome.css to set a max-width to the location bar and search bar.

Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#urlbar-container {max-width:400px!important}
#search-container {max-width:200px!important}

  • create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
  • use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userChrome.css file in the chrome folder (file name is case sensitive)
  • paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the editor window
  • make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
  • make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css.
    otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userChrome.css.txt file

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Thanks but that's way too advanced for me :(

Can you post a screenshot showing the problem? Firefox has a built-in way to adjust sizing between the address bar and search bar, but otherwise, it is supposed to be automatic. Sometimes the address bar doesn't shrink to fit the buttons and the buttons overflow (you get a >> button that leads to a drop-down list). That can be caused by a problem in a settings file.

This can help place 'blanks' on the toolbar;

Many of us are using; https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer (Customize Australis)

Restore squared tabs, appmenu, add-ons bar, small button view and more on Australis UI (Windows/MacOSX/Linux + Fx 29+).

This will restore many of the things the upgrades took away.

It's an old video. Firefox 29 and later do not include those space and flexible space controls. As Fred mentions, add-ons can bring them back.

Unfortunately I downloaded the link Fred posted and there was no spacer tab added to customize Firefox

Is there any way to move the entire menu bar down below the address bar? IE11 has become unusable so now getting use to firefox thanks for all help.

Note that Firefox still supports these customizableui-special- items natively.

The only problem is that you can't do this via the Customize palette, but either need to use an extension (CTR) or edit browser.uiCustomization.state on the about:config page.

  • [/questions/1081480] Who do we query at Mozilla to bring back SPACE and SEPERATOR buttons?!

Do NOT use "Pretty Print" in the Scratchpad because that changes double quotes to single quotes.

They are merely not present in the Customize palette, you would have to install or enable an extension like CTR temporarily to have them present in the Customize palette. Once you have dragged them on a toolbar then you can disable/uninstall CTR and you should still see those items on the toolbar (but no longer in the Customize palette) after you have restarted Firefox. You can alternatively edit the value of the browser.uiCustomization.state and add spring, separator, spacer items with a unique number appended to the value of this pref in the position where you would want them to appear. You should have the item(s) on the toolbar after you have restarted Firefox. "customizableui-special-separator##" "customizableui-special-spacer##" "customizableui-special-spring##"

Thanks cor-el but again that is just to advanced for an ole senior thanks anyway they really should have left the spacer buttons alone.

more options

Easiest is to install CTR temporarily and use this extension to do the customization by dragging space items from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar. If you do not want to keep CTR then you can remove this extension once you are done. You should still have these space items on the Navigation Toolbar after a restart and they would only disappear when you would use Restore Defaults of do any action that affects browser.uiCustomization.state like clearing prefs.
