How do I disable the "Recently Bookmarked" section in the bookmarks menu in Firefox 57?
The recently bookmarked section is intensely annoying, and I would really like a solution for getting rid of it. It can't be removed via the context menu, because that option has been removed. Furthermore, it cannot be removed via direct edit of about:config because the parameter for showing the "Recently Bookmarked" section does not exist. Any suggestions?

hi, in the firefox quantum default layout the combined library icon for bookmarks/history/downloads...) is replacing your bookmarks button that you're used to - when you go into customization mode, you can place the dedicated bookmarks button back onto the toolbar though ;-)

Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem. The bookmarks button has no option to delete the "recently bookmarked" section - or am I missing something? Most annoying indeed.
Many years ago, I got rid of several items at the top (and bottom) ot the bookmark menu. I don't remember exactly how I removed "recently bookmarked", but when I check about:config, browser.bookmarks.showRecentlyBookmarked is set to false, so...
As robotek99 wrote, the "RecentlyBookmarked" entry is no longer there. So we need to either have it re-introduced in Quantum, or (better still) get rid of it as a standard active feature in the first place.

Contributor jscher2000 has a great tutorial that I followed for creating a userChrome.css file to customize my menus and get rid of items that are just clutter to me: https://www.userchrome.org/.
See images for a copy of my css file and the results. I use Brackets to code but you can easily use Notepad to create the css file instead.

Neat! However, probably a tad too complicated for most of your 'average' users who don't care about css coding. (BTW, I use Brackets as well, great app! :) )

Sorry but this does not avoid the tracing of the ussage I give to my computer. I DONT WANT to be traced in any way, this includes to TO NOT TRACE WHICH BOOKMARKED SITES I VISIT.

This worked for me. Thanks!
Note that if you have a Firefox version (e.g. 52 ESR) that supports hiding this section that then you can right-click the drop-down menu to hide or show this section.
- you can hide the "Recently Bookmarked" section via the right-click context menu (Hide Recently Bookmarked)
I mean seriously folks, this is a ridiculous change. This is why business people ignore us when we make changes for the sake of change, especially when the changes make no sense. Different isn't necessarily good. The rest of the menu is really nice but I have a list that stretches WAY down the front of the browser full of incomprehensible random bookmarks.

Actually this is the Bookmarks "Menu" button. The Bookmark button is now in the address window along with some other icons (pocket, page actions and reader). I can not see how to move the Bookmark button. Deleting this does not move it to the "available icons" section in Customize. Not seeing how to configure the address bar element.
I'm on 58.0.1 and there is no bookmarks icon in the address window. There is a star there for ADDING bookmarks, not viewing them. I've added an additional bookmarks icon next to the worthless one we're discussing, and that is on the menu bar, which is to the right and left of the address bar typically, although of course icon placement can be customized.
I am on v60 and vainly searched for a solution, I mean simple one, not some complicated script method.
Have a bookmark toolbar, that's fine. Admittedly, whilst using the bookmarks from the toolbar, I don't need to go into the Library->Bookmarks anymore, i.e. as such the Recently Bookmarked list does not really stand in the way.
Then again, I wonder whether I could disable this lllong 'Recently Bookmarked'-list.
For some unknown reason developers felt they should remove the about:config->browser.bookmarks.showRecentlyBookmarked setting.
