A "network monitor" for use with Hughesnet system and a windows 10 operatiing system

more options

We are on Hughesnet Satellite and we wish to be able to monitor the network usage by date and time because our allotted bandwidth seems to be getting siphoned off. We are also interested in being able to control our download updates to correspond with "bonus time" that will not affect our standard usage allotments.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are obviously not computer techy types but want to be able to monitor and manage our allotted subscription time to it's best advantage. We do not stream of view movies, you tube, etc.

Many thanks.

Bob

There's a bunch of different ways to monitor your data usage in Windows, here's one article I found: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/monitor-your-data-usage-in-windows-10/ , but that's getting a bit off-topic for this forum.

If you're looking for ways to reduce your data usage in Firefox, one thing you can do is to install an ad-blocking extension like uBlock origin. This extension (or any other one you choose, there's a lot of different options) will prevent most advertisements from loading, meaning that you don't use data to download them.

Many thanks. We would like to hear as many ideas as possible so we are leaving our question as unanswered - no offense.

There is no way to monitor usage thru Firefox; there have been add-ons for Firefox which did that in the distant past. But nothing in the last 5 or 6 years that I can recall being available. But those only covered Firefox, so monitoring at the Operating System level is far better for an accurate gauge.

IMO, you are better off asking about that in a Windows support forum or possibly with the vendor of your network firewall. IOW, monitor where your LAN or intranet connects to the internet to monitor all usage, rather then monitoring each web browser on each device and then try to total all usage separately.
