I think they both worked, but I didn't see the new folder 'from Google Chrome' and thought they'd be imported to 'other bookmarks.' Well done, Mozilla! My mistake.

You could try manually importing your bookmarks using HTML. Just export your Google Chrome bookmarks to HTML and then import that HTML file into Firefox.
