Hello,

Requirement is simple: 1. Use "Filter Rules" to find a specific string (such as a "widget XYZ on sale") 2. Using a Template, forward a one-line text (such as "widget XYZ is on sale") to a specific email address. This email address (such as "johnson@tmomail.xxx") goes to my account at the cellular service provider which converts it to a text SMS message and sends it to my phone. I instantly get a text SMS message "widget XYZ is on sale" which triggers my immediate attention.

Currently we can "Reply with template". This will not work as I do not want to reply to the sender of the advertisement. We can also "Forward email". This will not work as these emails are usually very long, they are HTML, etc. and will be rejected by the cellular service provider. The cellular service provider cannot convert a long HTML email to a short text SMS message.

I asked for help on the forum (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=3041032) No easy solution or workaround was suggested.

I hereby request a feature (or an easy workaround) for "Forward with template".

Thanks, best wishes,

CC

I wonder why you can't set up the account, the one that's set up in TB, on your phone and get notifications immediately, without all the other intermediary steps. Unless the phone is a feature phone.

Thanks for taking the time to write back.

Receiving emails to my smartphone is not difficult. All 2000 or so a day, 14,000 a week. Not very useful. I allow my smartphone to interrupt (or distract me) only for very important matters, not for every trivial event such as every email I receive on all my accounts.

As far as I know, TB does not provide an Android version. TB on my PC with Filters can parse thousands of emails for very specific (programmable) bits of information I need. There are thousands of emails not worthy of interrupting or distracting me and I certainly wouldn't want to read and parse thousands of emails individually on my smartphone. That what computers are good for.

As far as I know smartphone apps cannot silently receive thousands of emails every day, parse each one of them individually, filter out most of them and trigger a notification only when a very specific bit of information is received, per my programmed criteria.

If such program already exists for Android, please let me know.

If not, could you please let me know how I can make a "Feature Request" that will actually reach the developers of TB?

Thanks and best wishes,

CC

A Request For Enhancement (RFE) can be submitted to Bugzilla. In the meantime, I would create a mail account whose sole purpose is to receive messages about 'widget sales', and set it up on the phone. Another workaround might be to define filters in a gmail account, then Request Desktop Site when accessing the account via the mobile browser.

Regarding: <<create a mail account whose sole purpose is to receive>> important notifications. Excellent idea. So instead of getting an SMS on my criteria to trigger my attention, I can have desktop TB forward on my criteria to a dedicated email that only my phone gets (so I don't create an endless loop on desktop TB) , which I can set with a distinct notification tone.

The gmail idea is also good (outside TB). I already use the "Inbox" version with many folders/filters. I have to find a way to declutter and make sure that the needed message pops out among the mass/mess. Advantage with gmail is that TB desktop needs not be running.

I will follow through with a RFE to see if my initial idea (a bit simpler) can be implemented.

Thanks and best wishes,
