Firefox is not launching on Windows 7 Domain joined laptop for some colleagues.

Click on the icon, seems to turn as if loading but no browser window opens, can see firefox.exe process in Task manager. Clicking on Firefox again just adds another process in task manager. Clean install of Firefox carried out, same issue. Log on my self and launches fine, fault is specific to colleague

checked %appdata%\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox and profiles.ini seems fine

Have reset this and %appdata%\local\Mozilla\Firefox Firefox generates a new profile folders but still does not launch

Noted in local profile %appdata%\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\z6493deu.default a file called ".startup-incomplete" is generated this is the same for other affected colleagues

Do you have any ideas apart from me refreshing colleagues windows profile?

It might be that the Firefox window is opening outside where it can be seen on the monitor.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changes-toolbars-and-window-sizes-are-not-saved You may have corrupt xulstore.json or Localstore.rdf files.

Close Firefox. Open your file browser to this hidden location:

  • Mac: *~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
  • Linux: *~/.mozilla/firefox/Profiles
  • Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data
    \Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Search for the above files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.

Are the profile folders on the same computer or on a network drive?

Are there non ASCII (e.g. accented or Unicode) characters in the path name to these profiles?

I have already deleted C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla folder, rebooted machine and retried Firefox. It Still doesn't launch but does re-generate Mozilla profile for the colleague.

The profile folders are on the same computer and there are no non ASCII characters in the path.

I have also tested opening in Safe mode - to no avail Colleague also has local admin access

I am going try reinstalling FireFox using colleagues windows profile tomorrow, if fails will reset the profile.

only concern is others are affected and common factor is they use Firefox for the HR Application iTrent.
