All of a sudden, I can't see emails that I know are there because the subject of a previous message in my inbox is underlined. I can find the emails when I search for them by putting in a recipients name. And when they show up the thread column exhibits a red flag (don't know what it means). HELP.

The graphic means you have got some subthreads selected to be ignored.

I have been testing this and noticed that depending upon how you selected them to be ignored in the first place determines how you get rid of that flag. For example, If I had selected the top level email to read and then moved cursor to another email in same thread and right clicked (not left clicked to open) and selected to ignore subthread, then it would set up all with flags. Then if I attempt to remove the flag from the top one, nothing happens, they are all still showing as flagged. It appears like I cannot remove the flag. This sounds just like what you are experiencing. So it would seem I can replicate the situation.

So remove the 'threads' option. Remove the 'Threading' sort option. Either : click on the 'Display Message Threads' column header Or : 'View' > 'Sort by' > and select 'unthreaded'

Sort by 'Subject' to get them all in a block. Do the right click 'ignore subthread' until one of them goes, it may well be the last one. Once you have found the original one which set up this bulk selection of ignore subthread, you will discover either all flags will go in one go, or some will go and then it is easy to remove the remainders.

There will also be a > beside the line the underlines email is on. Try clicking it.

I have done that, of course! I have attached a screenshot; the messages with the red flags in the Threads column do not show up in my Inbox; I can only see them when I search for the people and then click on one of their emails and I then see the window / tab that is in the screenshot.

Please tell mew what those symbols at the left of the screenshot mean and if they will solve my problem. Thanks!

I have no idea what the graphic means. I might guess it has something to do with messages in the trash. but that is just a guess.

I think the red icon means 'ignored thread', and you might be able to see the missing messages by selecting View/Threads/Ignored Threads.

Does nothing. Still don't show up in Inbox (I am afraid that I am missing messages!) and the red flags are still there when I do find the messages by searching for the person who I think may have messages that are hidden as these are. and, are there any OTHER messages that are sent by other people that I don't know about and therefore don't search fro their messages?

No, not in the trash. Who can answer these questions for me? Do you work for Mozilla? How can I reach them?

What if you select the red-icon messages in the search list and press the K key (Message/Ignore Thread), i.e. toggle from Ignored to not-Ignored?

All that does is close the thread. In other words, the same as clicking on the triangle at the left of the top message in the thread.

You have set it up to ignore that subthread, hence you see the red symbol.

Right click on email which has the red symbol and select 'Ignore subthread'. It will remove the symbol.

Still does nothing about the red flag.

Can ANYONE help? Is hter a way to reach Mozilla? Or, someone by phone?

Clearly from the US. The rest of the world does not expect a phone.

Thunderbird is developed by an independent community to Mozilla, although working under their umbrella. They do not have an office, so no phone goes with that.
