I want to use the address bar as a search bar. I don't want anything to appear underneath it ever. I don't want suggestions of any kind, I don't want to see past searches, and I don't want the option of using any other search engines besides my default. The best I've managed to do with the current version is disable all search functionality in the address bar but still have the text I'm typing appear beneath the bar.

Would you try this please :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar and look for the preference :

browser.urlbar.oneOffSearches

and set its value to false

Then type in the search bar and look for the preference :

keyword.enabled

and set its value to false

Next - type in the search bar and look for the preference :

browser.urlbar.maxRichResults

and set its value to 0 (= zero)

Then close and restart Firefox.

I have version 65.0, I have no idea why the website thinks it's version 60.

You probably have an old user agent, so try fixing that with How to reset the default user agent on Firefox

You know you can configure a completely separate search bar, to keep searches out of the URL bar. Add the Search bar to your Firefox toolbar

None of the listed entries appear when I check about:config. It's not a big deal, I just wanted to be correct about the version of Firefox I'm using.

I know I can add a separate search bar. That's not my problem. I don't want to keep searches out of the address bar, I want to stop Firefox from displaying anything under the bar.

I have this problem, too. I hate clutter and what Firefox is doing here is unnecessary and distracting. All I want to see is the top-most address bar and nothing else.

Here's what I want to remove:

You probably have "Resist Fingerprinting" enabled to get this user agent (current ESR on Win 7).

I want to stop Firefox from displaying anything under the bar.

This works for others :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar browser.urlbar.

Lookd for the preference :

browser.urlbar.maxRichResults

And set its value to 0 (= zero)

Then close and restart Firefox.
