How to open links in a new neighboring tab next to the current tab?

Whenever I open a link, it opens a new tab to the far right. Is there an option to open the link right next to the current tab like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge?

Solution (Credit: @mskessler1) (Copied to avoid dead link):
1. In the address bar, type about:config and press the Enter key;
2. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear;
3. Click I accept the risk! to continue to the about:config page;
4. In the search box at the top, type "browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent" and "browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent" respectively;
5. Double-click on the first item that appears in the list to change the value to [true].

Do you have other tabs open and whenever you click a link it creates a gap between the tabs?

Note that there are two browser.tabs.insert prefs present on the about:config page.

  • browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent = true
  • browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent = true

The former is about opening a new tab via the '+' button on the tab bar or otherwise (Ctrl+T). The latter is about opening a link in a new tab.
