Can't Create or Edit Events & Reminders Not working

For about a month now, I cannot create new calendar events or edit already-created events because the "Save & Close" button doesn't work (I click it and nothing happens - it does not save anything - the edit/create window stays open like as if I never even clicked the "Save & Close" button).

Also, my reminders stopped working.

I've figure out that if I...

- disable the Lightning/calendar extension - restart Thunderbird - enable the extension - restart Thunderbird

...then everything works fine again.

That is, until I close the Thunderbird program then reopen it. Once reopened, I can no longer create/edit events and the reminders stop working again.

The solution is to keep disabling/re-enabling the calendar extension. But that's getting a bit old lol

I also tried reinstalling the extension (v68.4.1 downloaded from https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/lightning/), and that does work. But just as the above, once I close then reopen Thunderbird, I still have the same problems.

I have no other extensions installed.

Any help would be appreciated.

By pure mistake, I figured out a way to make the calendar work every time. It's just a work around, not a fix, of course. But it may give someone insight as to what is making this happen.

It's simple...

  • Open TH
  • Drag the calendar tab to my taskbar
  • This opens up a new instance of TB. In this new instance, the calendar works as it should.
  • Close the old instance.

This "fix" works until I close TB and open it back up again. Then I have to do the above routine again to make the calendar work again.

I'm having the same problem since upgrading to 68.5.0 (32 bit)...de- & re-activating or removing/reinstalling lightning gets it back to work, but only for the first session.

At least the work-around found by vrepublishing seems to be working (as far as the two times I tried marks a trend... :) ).

If it helps, I'm running Win 10, and Lightning is the only Add-in I'm using with Thunderbird.

Thanks for posting. This thread isn't getting much love, I'm afraid.

I just wanted to let you know that my "remedy" posted in my second post has worked for me many times now. I actually figured it out about a week before I posted it - but wanted to make sure it really does work.

I do it every time I have to shut down and restart TB and I test it every time by making a test event then deleting it.

And I get all my reminders as I should.

But it still indicates a problem, of course.

This is not a new problem. If you search google you will find this problem reported on other sites dating many years ago. But I never saw my temporary solution posted anywhere. I discovered it by accident when I accidentally dragged my calendar tab to my taskbar (please don't ask how that happened, I don't remember lol).

BTW: Just an FIY, since my OP, I have upgraded to 68.5.0 and the problem still persists.

Hi, Have a look at this thread, may help, your problem sounds to be related. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1273975

Hi John,

Thanks for the pointer, and I can confirm that the problem seems to go away when you choose anything but "Events in current view".

I also would like to point out that I'm using Lightning EXCLUSIVELY with local calendars to manage various ToDo Lists. I'm mentioning this as I've seen references to linking to Google calendar being suspected, but my situation proves that Google cannot be the root cause.

The other interesting detail, which could assist debugging, is vrepublishing's obervation that dragging the calendar tab (non-functioning) to the taskbar will reliably open a new TB window with an OPERATIONAL calendar/tasklist.

Cheers.

I can confirm that selecting anything but "Events in current view" then restarting TB "solves" the problem.

It's better than my method as it requires you to take only one action (presumably, but I have not tested it for very long). My method requires you to take an action every time you open TB.

However, I cannot mark this as a solution since it's no more a solution than my solution, which isn't a solution.

However, thank you for the suggestion as I prefer it over my own, for sure. And I will continue to test it.
