In Inbox - Identify individual or group emails as read by Shift+C – moments later they are all returned to Unread (Bold) status, repeatedly. In Inbox - Select emails and Move to Local Folders – moments later they are returned to Inbox, repeatedly.

re : Identify individual or group emails as read by Shift+C
Shift+C marks all unread mail as read in that folder. You do not need to select emails. If you had selected emails to be marked as read then you would highlight the emails and then press the 'R' key.
However, that will not explain why emails on server are not being marked as read.
re :Select emails and Move to Local Folders – moments later they are returned to Inbox The 'Move to' action should have deleted emails off server. Obviously, it did not.
- Right click on Inbox and select 'Properties'
- Click on 'Repair Folder'
- Click on OK
Test again for 'Move-to' and Mark as Read Please report back on results.
Thank you Toad Hall for your welcome response.
The delay in me replying has to do with time-differences.
I erred in the wording of the first note, I should not have referred to 'individual or group emails', rather it should have read all emails in the Inbox.
I followed your recommended action, Right-click Properties in Inbox, for some seconds the Inbox was empty. When it returned the same annoying features continued.
Shift+C showed all as Read, but not for long.
When I moved one or more emails from the Inbox to their respective folders it seemed to be the trigger to change the status of all in the Inbox back to Unread.
So, Shift+C all showing Read, move an item to folder, all changed back to Unread and one or more items that had been moved to their folder re-appeared in the Inbox. A never-ending circle.
You refer to the emails on the server as not showing as read. I have been using Thunderbird for some years. The servers feeds emails to my Inbox and the originals of those emails stay in the server until such time as I wish to go in and deleted them manually. As far as I can determine, nothing that happens in the Inbox or the folders affects to originals held in the server.
And, in all my years using Thunderbird, I have not come across anything as peculiar as what is happening now. Most strange.
Further note, I repeated the Right-click properties of Inbox and still the same unwanted actions as above.
Thank you, des PS. I replied with this text above via emails, it failed to send. is this another associated issue?
