Problem sending/receiving emails
My ISP = SBCGlobal.net; My email app = v 78.11.0 of Thunderbird; I also use the latest v of Firefox.
My problem is with TB, which will neither send nor receive emails; Msg = "Sending password for user me@sbcglobal.net did not succeed. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: Server error, please try again later." This was two days ago. I found my TB login info at tools>options>privacy&security>passwords. I cannot figure out where to go to change / reset the login password at ATT
My question is this: To fix this problem, do I change my PW on my system, then do the same at the SBC/ATT end to make the inbound.att.net server aware of the change? Is this how I should proceed? FYI: I'm a tech dippie. I need help. Tks
P.S.: I don't have an ATT account.

AT&T has required secure mail keys now for several months. It is a change in policy, and has nothing to do with TB. Here are their instructions for creating keys:

You have to create a secure mail key and use that instead of the account password in TB.

So far, I've not figured out how to do as instructed. The task sounds so simple. One would think ATT would make it easy for someone seeking to create a secure mail key to do so. I guess I'll just have to keep trying, hoping to eventually figure it out.
But, I've used SBCGlobal and Thunderbird since the mid '90's and have never had a problem like this. The client residing on my desktop should be able to identify itself to both "inbound.att.net" and "inbound.att.net", and SBCGlobal shouldn't have a problem continuing to both send and receive emails like a good ISP.
What's going on? If the effect to be explained is that all of a sudden - after 26 years of good service -"inbound.att.net" can no longer recognize and accept my password, what explains it?
Hopefully, somebody out there knows the answer, and I eagerly await your guidance.

Ok. Mission successful, and thanks for the help. But, I have another problem that I hope you can also help me figure out.
To bring you up to date, I have my Secure Mail Key together with the confirming email from AT&T. However, incoming emails continue being directed to the Yahoo Mail account I set up on the 17th as an interim account, and not to my Thunderbird account, which I prefer. (So, when I launch TB and ask it to "get messages" it continued to respond with the "Sending password for user (me)@sbcglobal.net did not succeed, etc" NOTE: both yahoo and TB use my @SBCGlobal.net email address).
So my question is this: how do I convince both "inbound and outbound.att.net" to accept my password thus enabling me to return to Thunderbird?

Did you set the Yahoo account to collect mail from the SBC account? If you remove the passwords for the SBC account from Saved Passwords in Options/Privacy & Security, then restart TB, you will be prompted for a password, so enter the secure mail key.
I'm all set. TB is up & flying, and I'm hugely relieved! Thanks for all your help.
