Firefox 97 and previous version CREATES noise in whatever audio is running. Whether it is audio from Audacious, my music player, or audio from the program I am watching on Firefox. How can I stop the noise, which sounds like static from a week station on an old AM radio? Using other browser does not have this audio problem, UNLESS Firefox is running. Even if not actively using Firefox, just having it open on the desktop causes noise. Using Linux Mint 20 64bit. Audio produced by motherboard ASUS Prime B550 Plus with AMD Ryzen 9 3900X processor. Clicking on Firefox Help gets a message saying "Updates disabled by your system administrator" along with the normal text. I didn't disable updates and I am the Admin.

Try downloading another copy of Firefox, run it from the folder and see if you have the same issue.

Since I opened this thread, "downloading another copy of Firefox, run it from the folder" didn't work. Just wouldn't run. Don't remember why. In the interim I was able to get Firefox to update. Now using 97.0.1 (64-bit). The noise problem has improved. Now I find the noise only happens when connected to certain URLs. I haven't had the time to isolate the problem to specific situations. I appreciate the help.

To run it from the folder, see screenshot.

What I downloaded was firefox-97.0.1.tar.bz2 . When I open it, I don't see any .bin file. When I open that file, there is only a "Firefox" folder in it. When I open that folder there are 5 folders and 40 files in it. One of the files is "Firefox.bin". When I double click it, I get a window with the message "No applications found for 'firefox-bin' " The folders are: browser defaults fonts gmp-clearkey icons
