Differentiate from browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent and adding new tab with Plus button

Hi, for me the most intuitive behavior for creating new tabs is to insert after current when using the keyboard shortcut, and inserting at the end when clicking the plus sign at the end of the row. I'm making the switch from Chrome and the Open New Tab Here extension enables this distinction. Curious if there's an existing solution, or would an additional config setting be required?

Firefox has two browser.tabs.insert prefs present on the about:config page to control the new tab behavior.

  • browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent = true
  • browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent = true

The former is about opening a new tab via the '+' button on the tab bar. The latter is about opening a link in a new tab.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. If you get the warning page, you can click the "Accept the Risk and Continue" button.

Otherwise you can search the Add-ons website for a suitable extension.

Unfortunately, those two settings do not allow me to select a different behavior when opening a new tab with a keyboard shortcut vs opening a new tab with the plus button. I searched for an extension but did not find one.
