Is there any clear way to prevent Firefox from automatically downloading and installing updates? I had checked the setting to prevent it being done without my choosing to do so: "Check for updates but let you choose to install them" but Firefox did not comply. What can a user do if Firefox will not comply with its own settings?

In government it's called autocracy, elitism and the only ones who like it are the ones in charge. Is that what's going on with Firefox?

I think that Firefox will download updates automatically, but can ask for permission to install the update depending on your update settings. To have more control, you can disable downloading updates in the background.

You can preconfigure or 'lock' preferences (remove the blank space in the link). I have such a file.
