Cannot set Thunderbird default browser to Firefox

more options

Kubuntu 22.04 Thunderbird 102.7.1 (64-bit)

I simply cannot change the default browser from Chrome to Firefox.

  • Firefox is my default browser.
  • I've set network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http and network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https to true.
  • I've edited the attachment entries for https and http to "always ask"
  • I've delete the attachment entries for https and http

No success. Thunberbird always reverts the setting to Chrome.

This should not be so complicated :( Why not a simple setting "Default browers" and pick one from there?

Solution choisie

First, I am a novice at Linux, but typically, the default browser is set in the OS, not the email client. At least that's how it works in Windows. Thunderbird just invokes to default browser, but does not set it. This article may (or may not) be useful: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-set-browser-environment-variable-on-linux

Thanks a lot.

That solved my problem, finally. I was being fooled by Firefox itself - apparently the "Firefox is your default browser" setting and confirmation (view image) is irrelevant.
