How to turn off Global Privacy Control popup message?

more options

I keep getting Review Your Global Privacy Control preferences message, almost every time I start the browser. I have selected "Don't Allow" option many times and have also went and managed my privacy controls. But, the popup message won't stop coming.

How do I stop the popup message?

I have been Firefox/Mozilla user from the very early days but I am at a point where I have to stop using it because of this annoying popup message.

See:

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Website Privacy Preferences -> "Tell websites not to sell my data"

You can possibly set these GPC control prefs to false in about:config.

  • privacy.globalprivacycontrol.enabled
  • privacy.globalprivacycontrol.functionality.enabled

Usually if you tell a site that you don't want them to do something, your choice will be saved either in your account (if you sign into the site), or in a cookie, or both. If you have to tell the site this repeatedly, it's possible that the cookie where they store your previous response is getting clear when you shut down/restart Firefox.

It's also very possible that sites are just torturing users who use Global Privacy Control until they give up and turn it off. In that case, someone probably is working on an add-on to suppress those prompts.
