Copy mails from one profile to another and remove duplicates
Hi,
I have several profiles in Thunderbird 115.9.0 (64-bit) on Win10 with each profile having few different email accounts which got created over a period of time since we had changed some mail service providers (mail hosting server) earlier.
Profile A1 -Email account a -Email account b (period Jan2022 - till date) -Email account c
Profile A2 -Email account p (period Jan 2020 to May 2020) -Email account q -Email account r
Profile A3 -Email account x (period Apr 2020 to Aug 2020) -Email account y
Profile A4 -Email account z (period Jan 2017 to Dec2019)
In reality the email account "b", "p", "x" & "z" are the same.
Question 1) So how ii can merge all my emails from different emails accounts located into different Profiles into a one single mail account and profile. Please note that the option to retrieve old mails from server is not there as the service provider has changed so i want to merge all past emails into one mail folder from local TB database only.
Question 2) After merging, there might be some duplicate emails in the same folder. How do i remove the duplicates and keep single copy.
Please advise.
Thnx & Regards Tejas

- install import-export addon if not already done - switch to first profile - highlight desired message folder, rightclick and select import-export entry and select to export as eml files to a local directory - repeat for each message folder, exporting to same local directory - switch to next profile and repeat the process - when done, switch to master profile - create new Local Folder to retain the exported messagess - highlight the folder and select the import-export option to import eml files - install the 'removedupes' addon to remove duplicates
Hi David,
Thanks for your quick response.
Is this Import export tool and removedupes developed by Mozila or any other 3rd party. Please advise which ones are reliable.
Will this exercise maintain the folder/directory structure like the Inbox mails should be in Inbox and Sent ones in the same sent folder etc?
Addons are developed by individual contributors and rely on donations. The folder structure will be however you wish to arrange it, since I assume you will be creating and importing in whichever structure you wish. That is, once you create a local folder, you can create subfolders from the parent folder.
Hi David.
I am now trying to export eml through your above suggested matter. However during export of eml files with html index, it creates two subfolders. Like Inbox and Inbox1 with files being split in two. Some are common files and some are separate files. Cant figure out whats happening here. ??
Is ther some limitation on the no of emails being exported ? I have a large database. Please advise ?
The process creates an HTML index file of the download. That can be deleted, since all you care about are the eml files. I am not aware of any limit.
