Could be the site or your firewall blocking or could be some of the old plug-ins you have installed.

Other Issues: to correct security/stability issues

Update Java: your ver. 1.6.0.13; current ver. 1.6.0.20 (important security update 04-15-2010) (Firefox 3.6 and above requires Java 1.6.0.10 and above; see: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Java-related+issues#Java_does_not_work_in_Firefox_3_6) (Windows users: Do the manual update; very easy.) See: Updating Java Do the update with Firefox closed.

Install/Update Adobe Flash Player for Firefox: your ver. 10.0 r22; current ver. 10.0 r45 See: Updating Flash -use Firefox to download and SAVE to your hard drive (save to Desktop for easy access) -exit Firefox (File > Exit) -check to see that Firefox is completely closed (Ctrl+Alt+Del, choose Task Manager, click Processes tab, if "firefox.exe" is on the list, right-click "firefox.exe" and choose End process, close the Task Manager window) -double-click on the Adobe Flash installer you just downloaded to install/update Adobe Flash -when the Flash installation is complete, start Firefox, and test the Flash installation here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15507&sliceId=1

  • NOTE: On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). See this: http://vistasupport.mvps.org/run_as_administrator.htm
  • NOTE for IE: Firefox and most other browsers use a Plugin. IE uses an ActiveX version of Flash. To install/update the IE ActiveX Adobe Flash Player, same instructions as above, except use IE to download the ActiveX Flash installer.

Also see: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash How do I edit options to add Adobe to the list of allowed sites

Update Shockwave for Director: your ver. 10.1; current ver. 11.5.7.609 (important security update released 2010-05-11; see http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb10-12.html) NOTE: this is not the same as Shockwave Flash; this installs the Shockwave Player. SAVE the installer to your hard drive (Desktop is a good place so you can find it). When the download is complete, exit Firefox (File > Exit), locate and double-click in the installer you just downloaded, let the install complete. IMPORTANT: I have found it wise to always restart your system after doing anything with Adobe products. See: Installing Shockwave

I know what it is. It's an old plug-in. Firefox won't let me run it. I want to run it. How do I make Firefox run it? (No, I do NOT want to upgrade it - I'm aware of the security risk, and I want to run it anyway).

Thanks, Steve.

Hey, just update you plug-ins and do not use outdated stuff on the net. You endanger your system and possibly threaten others by infecting sites and other users with your infected e-mails.

I am very tired of this problem. I have had it on and off for 2 years. I had flash working in firefox then the last firefox update this week obliterated my flash capabilities. On install a message popped up stating that flash had to be upgraded and directed me to the Adobe site. However, nothing at the Adobe site fixed the problem - I went through every suggestion and download at the site. Nothing worked. I googled for a solution and nothing that I have tried has worked. I have absolutely no problems with Flash in Opera and IE. What is it with Firefox???? Since they know that the problem exists and persists, why not put more serious effort into it??????????

I gave up and did a complete uninstall / reinstall, which seemed to work :\

Still don't know why firefox won't let me override the block. Well out of order taking away control of *my* system from me.

Ok. After some experimentation I have determined that Flash will work if I sign on as Administrator. It will not work for any user other than administrator (there are 3 people who use this computer). It would seem therefore that this has something to do with security or firefox looking for the plugin in the wrong place.

Ok, I have played with this further. I uninstalled flash and then reinstalled it as Administrator. Flash now works.

The problems seem therefore to have originated as follows. Firefox was upgraded by a user other than Administrator but a user with Administrator privileges. Firefox then recommended that Flash be upgraded and directed the user to the Adobe site. The upgrade to flash was performed as recommended but this disabled Flash for everyone but the Administrator. After pondering on this for a while it was decided to uninstall Flash and to reinstall it (using the previously downloaded Adobe utility for this) while logged on as Administrator. This fixed the problem for all users - touch wood.

There are a number of ways that this might be fixed - one is to not let FF upgrade unless the user is the Administrator but a better one would be for FF programmers to determine why this is happening to begin with.

At least it is over for me now until the next time.
