Are you sure that it isn't just the Java Console which is disabled?

That is for Java developers and isn't heeded to run Java Applets.

Hi Ed,

I am not a dev. Therefore you say I do not need the Java Console?

If I do not need it, how do I get rid of it? How do I opt out of future versions?

(Some of us have many addons, so it would be nice to remove or opt out of the extensions and plugins we don't actually use.)

Thanks, and have a nice weekend, Solo Owl

Hi Solo.Owl:

There is a thread here with instructions on how to remove the Java Console extension.

According to the article here in the MozillaZine knowledgebase, the Java Console hasn't worked with Firefox since FF 3.6 and/or Java 6 Update 10. The extension for the Java Console was hidden in past FF versions, but for some reason the FF developers decided to show this extension as disabled in FF6.

If you run the Java Installation Test and the test shows that your Java browser plugins are working correctly and up-to-date then your Java installation should be okay.
