I just updated Firefox, but the Start Page displays this message: "You're not on the latest version of Firefox. Upgrade today to get the best of the Web!" How do I convince my computer that I have in fact installed the update?

I have gone through this process more than once, always with the same result, even though a page popped up that began with "Hooray! Your Firefox is up to date!

Ruth, You may be still launching the old version left in your Applications folder. Open your App folder and see if you still have the older version.

You may also be using the old Dock shortcut to launch the old Firefox version, create a new Dock icon by finding the newest version of Firefox in your Applications folder and drag it to your Dock.

I hope that helps.

Which Firefox Start Page are you using as your Homepage?

This - http://www.google.com/firefox - is the old Firefox Start Page used by the Firefox 3.6 and earlier versions of Firefox. I think that Google assumes that you are using an older version of Firefox, as they hard-coded that "upgrade" message into that page - all versions of Firefox see that message.

Starting with the Firefox 4 version, Firefox is using a "local" Start Page with the address of about:home. It looks similar to the old Start Page, but it isn't exactly the same.
