Hi -

My antivirus anti-malware program is Webroot. I've had good luck with it. My version is 7 and my subscription will expire in 2 days. However, version 7 is no longer available for renewal.

They now require that I upgrade to version 8, better known as Secure Anywhere. About 5 months ago, I tried Secure Anywhere on a free trial basis and - at that time - there was a conflict with Firefox, causing it to crash every few minutes. With other browsers, it was fine.

Before I spend $39.95 to renew Webroot and upgrade to Secure Anywhere, can anyone tell me if this issue has now been resolved?

If so, I will renew Webroot and upgrade to Secure Anywhere. I'd like to keep Webroot, as other security programs have caused me issues such as erasing my passwords and auto-completes!

Have you checked that "known issue" out with Webroot support?

If there is a conflict, it is up to Webroot to fix it. There's no reason that Firefox shouldn't work fine with any anti-virus application, but the "add-on stuff" that many AV companies want to install in Firefox are what causes "issues" and problems for Firefox users. If they want to "add-on" to Firefox, they better damn well get it right 'cause Mozilla isn't responsible for fixing Firefox due to problems created by "add-ons" made for Firefox by a 3rd party.

Yes - I realize that - and have been in contact with Webroot. They indicate that there should not be an issue. The issue I had was 5 months ago, when I tried the upgrade for a few days.

Even where Firefox crashed I was able to re-open Firefox immediately without any issues, as soon as I closed out Webroot. So I will give it a try and see what happens.

If there are any issues, I will try Avast or AVG - those are popular and also free.

Honestly (and this is coming from personal experience, not an official Mozilla recommendation) webroot isn't a very good or reliable anti-virus. I would personally uninstall webroot (or any other anti-virus programs you have, never good to many multiples) and install something like Microsoft Security Essentials. http://microsoft.com/security_essentials. It's just as good or better, and it saves you the money and hassle (MSE is quite a bit more reliable and stable than some anti-viruses). So, that's my two cents.

Thanks...I will check out the reviews for Microsoft Security Essentials. Problem with some other programs is that they delete the good cookies along with everything else - and I lose my passwords and auto-completes. Webroot has always been fine in this regard...but I will check it out.
