babylon is a browser hijacker , a pup potentially unwanted programme. Merely by deleting the searches and deleting babylon entries does not solve this problem as the tool bar changes the master boot record. The solution is Hi, it is a case of browser hijack when you downloaded some software. The best way is to boot your computer in safe mode, pressing f8 and then select when you boot and then go to start, then run and type "regedit", go to edit menu , and then to find menu and find for babylon*.* and delete all the entries by choosing f3 key, to find another and so on , connected with babylon. It is also possible that the tool bar have entries in the master boot record. So , go to START, Computer, right click the properties and turn off system restore. Have the installation cd, and when prompt from cd comes enter to boot installation cd, and then when windows show start windows screen, select R for repairing and then enter 1 and password to go to c:\windows. Type FIXMBR to fix the unwanted entries other than the windows default mbr entries. Select yes if a warning message comes and then exit. Your problem would be getting solved. If you download, download from major geek instead of usual free download sites, which are carriers for these browser hijackers. Thank you and reply if the problem is solved. I used these methods to get rid of funmoods, blekko , incredible and babylon tool bars. I do not know how to refer my answers to this question and hence copied it. This will solve the problem toto
If you are not a trained professional be careful with going into the registry and Master boot Record (as outlined in the above answer) as it can be quite dangerous. I would rather try something like the below solutions, it might be a bit easier and you don't run the risk of permanently damaging your Windows Installation or losing Data.
Scan for Malware
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try some of the following programs to scan for malware:
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Microsoft Security Essentials (A good permanent anti-virus if you don't already have one)
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Uninstall Programs
- Click Start
- Then click Control Panel
- Then find the Add or Remove Programs (Or Uninstall a Program)
- Find any programs with the same name as the issue you are trying to fix (Babylon, funmoods, etc.)
- Uninstall them.
Reset Firefox
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Sir, I do not thing I have given some wrong procedure as claimed by Tyler downer. I have gone through extensively to write this answer. If mbr is affected, restoring the windows mbr default proved to be the best solution. You need not be an computer expert to do that. Nothing will happen if anybody tries to reset to the default mbr. Normally the threats are inserted to mbr, so that you could not remove, these kind of browser hijackers in the first place. Secondly, some may try to change your hosts file. The solution will work without anyfurther damage to the computer. Thanks for the remarks.
Finally (hopefully) free of Babylon Search at last! Thanks for the last step! Prior to reading your post I had: (1) removed Babylon Search as a Firefox extension using Firefox itself (2) deleted the Babylon program using control panel (3) removed all references to Babylon in registry using regedit (4) reset all references to Babylon in Firefox using about:config At that point Babylon Search no longer appeared to be functional but the references to it would reappear in Firefox when it was closed and reopened - it looked like it was just waiting to reassert itself! Forcing recreation of the prefs.js file did not purge them either. The final step was the Firefox reset under help.
yes, the last solution WORKS, go to "help' , 'trouble shooting information' , 'reset firefox' button, BINGO, thank you very much , you stupid babylon mysearch

From the ongoing replies , one will not know which is the correct or probable solution and which is not. Most of the things mentioned about, are to me, appears to be beating round the bush instead of straightly killing the enemy. By cleaning the mbr and deleting the registry entries this browser menace could be got rid ofF.
The best option is to go to our removal site and see how to remove Babylon quickly and easily
Hi, everybody while thanking the babylon ltd for the solution, i do not know, why it is installed against the wish of the user, whether he opts or not it is silently inserted to your system. Why this is so? I would request the babylon ltd to visit your forum and they will find that so many users of your forum ask how to get rid of this tool bar. My solution has worked for me. Intricacies of registry entries are very hard to find and i do hope that every ltd is having the option of the program that user want to be left with the users, without directly or indirectly allow.pl see these links also http://home.mcafee.com/virusinfo/virusprofile.aspx?key=1063106#none https://community.mcafee.com/message/252839
Hi, It will work like charm. But what about the intricate registry entries. Those cannot be erased even using famous revo uninstaller. The residue in the registry, who knows, may do indirect damage. To a babylon company representative, who has replied about the installation, I have asked , why in the first instant, the program was allowed by reputed download sites. On the other day, also i downloaded and it was about to be installed when mcafee warned me about downloading suspicious, dangagerous trojan, stealing and damaging the computer. Is that necessary. I have tried all the solutions, and see the mcafee virus data base and you will see that registry entries modified by the suspicious program.
If all removal instructions won't work and you'd like to edit your registry, please do as follows:
• Take a Regestry Backup and follow the steps: • Windows+R on desktop> Type Regedit and hit ok button> Select computers> hit Ctrl+F> Type Babylon in the search box and hit "Find Next" button. • That brings up the Babylon regestry control just Delete it(Hit Del and Enter),Search again(Just hit F3) and delete all the babylon controls. • Repeat the above step untill search says: "Finished Searching through the Regestry" when you hit F3. • Click ok button. • Restart the computer(Optional)
While thanking very much for the instructions on removal of babylon tool bar, I on behalf of all users would kindly request that their tool bar should not be made to indirectly install with other useful downloads. If anybody likes to install babylon, then it is up to the individual to choose the installation. Why should the users have to go to the intricacies of registry entries and delete. Hey jraju
You are absolutely right, And for that reason Babylon in the new year has changed its policy with all its partners that offer Babylon during any software download that it will be clearer that Babylon is included and it is in the user choice to decide not to download Babylon, and also the removal process will be much easier
For your knowledge
good week :-) Babylon support
Hi, Thank you for your support ideas. Even, when i have chosen to use custom download option, i saw this tool bar,and even when i removed the tick mark against those, this tool bar installed itself causing much annoyance, by occupying a tab side by side. So, only i have surfed the entire net and tried to remove this toolbar, and how it would have been installed. So, only i have tried its removal and also wrote as a suggestion to fellow user. Thank you very much, from this new year that it would be in user choice model. Happy new year
For anyone else having problems removing Babylon software, this Mozilla support article may help:

Hi, Alice
Please see the entire thread and see for yourself that all has been included in my replies to the queries and also the babylon ltd reply. The registry entries removal is the major part and so only i advocated cleaning of registries, which babylon ltd has also prescribed. Some of the programs while installing changes the mbr. ok
I just uninstalled my web browser and reinstalled it and babylon was gone you don't really have to go to safe mode or do what every other person says about going to "safe mode" and pressing f8 you don't have to do that stuff jeez adults are stupid...
Hi, If what you say is correct, then it is a solution. But, do you think that so many persons are asking for the solution to browser hijacks, like babylon. You could browse the question for yourself to see the effect, it does to the computer.
I'm locking this thread as it has spiraled out of control. For anyone still having issues with Babylon, please use How to remove the Babylon toolbar, home page and search engine to walk you through it, and if you still have trouble, please start a new thread.
