Hello, Can you PLEASE help me? I tried to cut and paste the link of a newspaper article into another webpage. A popup box appeared saying that "cut/paste option does not work in Firefox/Mozilla. For more information click here."

So, I did and was directed to a page that stated as follows:

To protect users' private information, unprivileged scripts cannot invoke the Cut, Copy, and Paste commands in the Mozilla rich text editor, so the corresponding buttons on the Mozilla Rich Text Editing demo page will not work. To enable these functions for purposes of the demo, you must modify your browser preferences.

Changing the preferences in Firefox Quit Firefox. If you have Quick Launch running (on Windows, this is an icon in the toolbar), quit that too. Find your Firefox profile directory. Open the user.js file from that directory in a text editor. If there's no user.js file, create one.

I have no idea how to create a user.js file, and have spent the last half hour trying to figure out how to do this...only to learn from another webpage, that apparently, that this is an advanced technique.

If this is an advanced function, could you not provide step by step directions on how to create a user.js file? I wound up opening a whole bunch of windows trying to teach myself how to create a "user.js" file to no avail. I don't think it's fair to direct the reader to open a "user.jf" file without any help or guidance.

All I want to do is cut and paste. Can you PLEASE help me with this? I have not had this trouble of trying to cut and paste anywhere else. Thank you

The ChromEdit Plus extension automatically creates a user.js (and the other 2 "user" files) upon installation, and it provides an interface within Firefox for editing those "user" files.

It makes it so you don't have to go hunting around for your Profile folder whenever you want to edit those "user" files by allowing you to access those files from within Firefox while it is running.

FYI, this support article might be a little more helpful for doing the user.js file manually than what you cited as having read.

Hello and thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my query of earlier today. I regret that I still do not understand what you suggest. I followed the link you provided, but being technologically behind, I don't know what I"m supposed to do, that will ultimately allow me to cut and paste into a document that Firefox is now preventing me from doing. If you would be so kind as to walk me through what I need to do to cut and paste my article into a webpage, (and perhaps explain why Firefox is not allowing me to do this), I would be deeply appreciative. Thank you in advance for your help. regards, Lorne
