Firefox 22 and higher shows fonts too big or too small, sometimes on the same page. How to "fix" this annoying 'improvement"?

Since the update *every* website displays with the fonts too big or too small. On many websites, some of the fonts are too big and some are too small *on the same page*

This makes for a horrible browsing experience.

I've tried setting the layout.css.PixelsPerPx to a value of 1, but all it does is make most websites fonts too small, while leaving some websites fonts too large, with many web pages having fonts simultaneously too large and too small.

The old behavior was quite acceptable and I'd really like to restore the behavior to what it was. How can I do that? Or do i just switch to Chrome and be done with it?

Hello,

Firefox on Windows is now following display scaling options which may render text larger on high resolution displays. There's more than one way to resolve this problem. See the Webpages are large and blurry after updating Firefox - how to fix article for one suggestion. Here's another possible solution:

  • Type about:config into the Firefox address bar and tap on the Enter key.
  • If the warning This might void your warranty appears, click I'll be careful, I promise.
  • Search for layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

Fx22layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

  • Double-click on layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to modify its value. The default is -1.0 in Firefox 22 and above. Change it to 1.0 to make it work like in previous Firefox versions.

If necessary, further adjust the value in 0.1 or 0.05 steps. Use values between 1.0 and about 0.5 to reduce elements in size. Use values greater than 1.0 to increase size. For example, a value of 1.25 will increase font size to 125% to accommodate the default DPI setting in Windows 8. Double check the value that you enter. Setting a too small value will make everything disappear and a too large value will blow things up.

If web pages still need to be adjusted then you can look at the Default FullZoom Level or NoSquint extension.

To adjust the font size for the user interface, you can use the Theme Font & Size Changer extension.

Thank you.

Did you even bother to read the question?

"I've tried setting the layout.css.PixelsPerPx to a value of 1, but all it does is make most websites fonts too small, while leaving some websites fonts too large, with many web pages having fonts simultaneously too large and too small."

This "fix" doesn't work. Hundreds of people are complaining about how their browser was broken by this "improvement". Why not address the real problem instead of telling users to apply a useless hack to fix a programming error?

Oh, I should add that I can make many websites work by hitting crtl+ or ctrl-, but many others the font sizes are both too large and too small and any amount of fiddling with this setting or the layout.css.PixelsPerPx value won't help that.

You had a product that was working perfectly and somebody made the decision to deliberately break it. Why?

My Font is huge, every web page. And I'm tired of not finding a solution. Just going to go back to using internet explorer, and that's sad. you had a great, reliable product, and then you broke it without offering a simple solution. your complicated one doesn't work, by the way.

Yes because going to IE is only a temporary solution. IE and chrome are doing the same thing too.

if you don't want content to be zoomed make sure that you have set windows to display at 100% in the windows control panel > appearance > display. more information about that is available at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/make-the-text-on-your-screen-larger-or-smaller
