How do I set the startup page to the new tab page?

I have my startup settings set to Open my windows and tabs from last time. If I leave Firefox with a single New Tab page, the next time I start it up my home page shows. New windows show the homepage too. I want my homepage to remain as it is. I have had it set like this before and had no trouble. Is it always like this? Thanks.

If you always want to start with the about:newtab page then you can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut and add a space and about:newtab to the target command line to specify starting with this page.

Otherwise you start with the home page or the pages from the previous time as set in the startup setting.
A new window will always open with the home page unless you would have an extension installed that changes this.

Type about:config in URL and Search/Filter for browser.startup.homepage and change the value about:newtab

It seems that browser.startup.homepage sets my homepage url. I want my homepage to be google.com, but I want to start up firefox on the New Tab page (by means of exiting it on a New Tab page, Firefox remembering my session). This doesn't seem to be possible. Maybe there is an available extension I could download?

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type About:Config. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Enter browser.newtab.url and press enter. browser.newtab.url tells Firefox what to show when a new tab is opened. If you want, right click and select Modify. You can change the setting to;

about:home (Firefox default home page),
about:newtab (shows the sites most visited),
about:blank (a blank page),
or you can enter any web page you want.

The same instructions are used for the new window setting, listed as browser.startup.homepage.

What I mean is, I want my start-up page to show my 'most used links', while leaving my Homepage set to google.com.

I could do this before, because I left my 'most used links' page on, and I set it to remember my session.

It's just that it automatically goes to my Homepage (Google) when I do this now! As if it were a new window. I left it on my favorites.

I think that i understood, go to about:config, search for this option "browser.startup.homepage" and chage its value to "about:newtab"

this will do your "most used link" page your initial page

I have an idea, but not sure this is what you want. Using the instructions I posted above, set your home and new tab pages as you want. Now, have Firefox display the page that you want FF to open with. After the page is loaded, mouse up to the address bar. Hold down the left mouse button on the icon, mouse over to the desktop, then let go. After, you can put this new shortcut icon where you want it. Then, from now on, when you want to start FF with that page, just double click that icon.

Hello All, Thank you for the quick replies. I have found an extension called Session Manager that saves your detailed session. It works for what I wanted Firefox to do.

Thank you!
