I often get the message "The Adobe Flash Plugin has crashed / Reload the page to try again" but the plugin check page does not list Adobe Flash.

The plugin check page does list something called 'Shockwave Flash." I went to the Adobe site and downloaded and installed the latest version of Adobe Flash but it still does not show up on the plugin check page. I don't see how Adobe Flash can be crashing in Firefox when Firefox doesn't even know that it's installed.

Your System Details List shows the Shockwave Flash 12.0 r0 plugin as installed, so you appear to have the Flash plugin installed.

You can check the version of the current Flash player here:

What is the current setting for the Flash plugin on Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Hello Cor-El:Shockwave Flash v. 12.00.43 is there, labelled as "Always Activate." I don't know why it's called that but it does have the correct version number for Adobe Flash. I thought they were different programs. With some trepidation I put FF in safe mode and checked out the three extensions and one appearance. The extension "Troubleshooter 1.1a" was still enabled in safe mode. When I enabled "Avast! online security" by itself and then "Real Down Loader" by itself (leaving "Troubleshooter 1.1a" enabled in each case) I was able to watch videos with no crashing. Since the crashing is an intermittent problem these results don't really get us very far. I didn't see any way of changing to another appearance. jhromer

Thanks vangelismsr: I have the very latest Adobe Flash (v. 12.000.43) installed but it still crashes some times. jhromer

The crashes are intermittent, but can you see any pattern to it at all?

The avast! Online Security extension has been identified with various other odd problems in Firefox, so you might try keeping that one disabled for 48 hours and see whether that helps.

Thanks jscher200: No pattern that I'm aware of, but I may not be using that many websites that use Adobe Flash. Only an occasional video. I'll try temporarily taking the Avast! extension out. jhromer

This happens all the time. I rarely hav the plug-in activated, and it will often show a crash when it's not even activated, let alone when it's activated, when it seems to be a cross-your-fingers type of thing hoping the plug-in doesn't crash on you.

No, it has nothing to do with the version installed, because this happens with the newest version of the program and plug-in installed.

Hi FireFoxFan1, in your other active threads you've described your problem as dialogs indicating that a script is hanging and with the continue and stop buttons. Are you also getting the message the originator of this thread is getting: "The Adobe Flash Plugin has crashed / Reload the page to try again"?
